Cyclists using the Roads
Thursday, July 10th, 2008Some of you may or may not have heard of the story involving a cyclist killing a pedestrian recently.
As a regular road user, I drive near enough every day and my pet hate when driving isn’t the other motorists, its cyclists. These morons cut through red lights, use the pavements when it suits them, cycle in the middle of busy lanes stopping the passing of traffic therefore holding up the cars behind them and causing congestion.
I have always said that rules that apply to motorists should apply to others who use the roads such as cyclists and by this I mean that they should have to pay a road tax and without doubt insurance to cover themselves in accidents.
The man involved in that incident was fined £2200 for knocking down a pedestrian and killing them. Now if the cyclist involved had been hit and killed by an uninsured driver, that driver would have broken the law on several counts, would face a very lengthly jail sentence, a driving ban and a fine. The outcome was the same, another life was lost on the roads and yet this man walked away with what was probably a month or so’s wages fine.
An absolute joke and farce of a decision. He should be facing manslaughter charges.
